My name is Leilani, and I am a freshman at Darnell-Cookman School of the Medical Arts. I have to catch two buses in the morning, so I have to wake up at 5:00 a.m.
When I get up, I normally take a few minutes to realize I am awake and that I have school. I get ready like everyone else—brush my teeth, wash my face, all the usual things. After I get dressed, I clean my room or whatever mess I made while getting ready.
Then I head out and catch my first bus, and later my second bus that takes me to school. Once I get there, I usually hang out in the cafeteria with my friends, talk, or eat.
After the first bell, my best friend and I walk to first period, and let me tell you, since we are both a middle and high school, the hallways get very crowded. Some people even sit in the middle of the hallway and do not move, so others have to push through or ask them to move.
My first period is usually calm, but we still get a lot of work done. During second period, I have journalism every day, and we watch the news and learn what to do—and what not to do—in journalism. We also sometimes split lessons or news videos up because that is my skinny class.
On A Days, I have Human Geography, where we take lots of notes and do fun activities, but my teacher likes to keep things moving, so it can feel overwhelming because of how much we do in a short time.
On B Days, I have Draw 1, and right now we are making a quilt. It has to be finished by the end of the month, so I definitely have to move fast in that class too.
Then comes my favorite part of the day: lunch. I sit with the same friends every day, talk, eat, and sometimes even do homework so I do not have to do it when I get home.
Then there is last period. On A Days, my last class is biology, which is my favorite because I actually learn a lot there and the class always has an uplifting mood.
On B Days, my last class is ELA, which can get boring sometimes, but right now we are acting out Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, which makes it more interesting.
Finally, it is time to go home, and I ride the bus home too. If my bus is late, I usually stay by the bus loop and talk with my friends. If it arrives on time, I rush because it gets crowded quickly.
When I get home, I usually eat again before starting homework. After homework, I might clean my room, do laundry, play volleyball, or just lay in bed on my phone—it depends on how I feel.
Another favorite part of my day is dinner, because my parents cook and it is always good.
Later, after my shower, I debate whether I want to dress up the next day or just wear sweats. Then I take forever picking an outfit and figuring out what to do with my hair before finally relaxing and scrolling on my phone.
After all of that, I finally go to sleep and mentally prepare myself to do everything again the next day.
