With a multitude of unanswered questions, almost endless plot holes, and an unsatisfactory ending, millions of fans have taken to slandering the Duffer Brothers for what they see as a disservice to the ten-year-long project that was Stranger Things.
While some fans believe the ending of the show was fine, a vast majority would disagree. Social media posts across multiple platforms collectively suggest that the finale was missing something, leaving out — sometimes minor — plot points that ultimately affected the grand scheme of what was one of the most anticipated series finales of the year. Critics claim the second volume of the fifth season felt rushed and, at times, made little sense. Many fans agreed with these claims, as videos discussing specific moments of the show spread like wildfire across social media. Though some viewers may be nitpicking the Duffer Brothers’ production, the more fans rewatch scenes, the more errors they continue to uncover.
To everyone’s surprise, Netflix recently released a documentary showing the brainstorming process used by the Duffer Brothers and their production team. In the documentary, the Duffer Brothers admitted to developing parts of the story after the first half of the season had already begun. On top of that, they revealed that the storyline was not fully completed before filming started. This revelation helped explain some of the inconsistencies fans noticed in certain characters.
Still divided weeks after its conclusion, fans continue to debate whether the finale was terribly executed or whether it was, in fact, a satisfying conclusion to the series.
