The run for president of the United States of America is over. Donald Trump, as called by the AP, has won the 2024 Presidential Election. The count currently stands at Kamala Harris with 224 electoral votes and Donald Trump with 277 electoral votes.
9th graders here at Darnell Cookman were asked about their opinions on this election and its results. One 9th grader stated she “believes this election to be unfair, that too many American citizens believe a woman is incapable of running a country.” When asked her opinion on the results of the election, she stated, “Kamala had an unfair disadvantage due to her late start in the race.” She also “strongly believes Trump’s morals are wrong and will only hurt the American people.”
Another 9th grader was asked the same questions and stated, “I believe the election was very fair, and that Donald Trump is the perfect president because he had the most intimidation factor.” He also stated, “A woman could never run the country.” The student also stated strong opinions of Kamala that have been purposely left out due to censorship.
A final 9th grader was also asked the same questions and said that he “doesn’t care who is president, it is what it is.” When asked further, this student refused to answer.
Overall, there was a mix of students feeling the election went well, and others who felt it did not. This is also mixed with the percentage of those who had no emotion or opinion about the election and its results whatsoever. There were strong feelings on all sides. Many of the students said they had the same opinion as their parents. This led to the theory that parents’ opinions highly influence their students’ opinions.
