It was announced on October 3rd, 2024, that 6th grade and AP World History teacher Mrs. Matson, has just been named teacher of the year at Darnell Cookman! This award recognizes her contributions to education and commitment to her students. She has been an outstanding teacher during the previous year, leading almost all of her students to passing the AP World History exam. Her teaching methods teach kids how to take some responsibility for their learning and to be able to study on their own, which prepares them well for college.
In class, the students watch Heimler’s history, a professional at all the AP history courses who makes videos on every single topic of the course. He makes jokes every now and then to keep the students engaged and make sure they are paying attention. He explains all that will be on the AP exam, helping the students to prepare for it. The students fill out a packet to make sure they are paying attention to the video. Mrs. Matson adds her own teaching as well while the video is playing.
Mrs. Matson is also very lenient when it comes to late work and grades. She accepts all late work for full credit (unless its being turned in after the report card).
Overall, the students love her as a teacher.
Congratulations, Mrs. Matson!
